Taxi to Ben Gurion with Kids: Car Seats, Boosters & Strollers (2026)

A taxi to Ben Gurion Airport with kids costs exactly what it costs without them: a regular taxi (up to 4 passengers and 3 large suitcases) from Jerusalem to Ben Gurion is from ₪290 in the daytime according to the official 2026 meter tariff, and the drive takes about 48 minutes for 54 km. At Almaxpress Taxi an infant carrier, car seat or booster is fitted before the driver sets off, free of charge, when you request it at booking. Below: the rules, the right seat for each age, which vehicle fits your strollers and luggage, prices, timing and Terminal 3.

Are car seats required in Israeli taxis?

Israeli traffic regulations require children in private cars to travel in a car seat or booster suited to their age, height and weight. Taxis are exempt from that rule, so a cab hailed on the street rarely carries a child seat. Legal, yes. Safer, no.

The run to the airport is an intercity trip: Highway 1 out of Jerusalem, motorway speeds, close to 50 minutes without a break. That is where restraint matters most, so our policy is simple: on every pre-booked ride with children we recommend an age-appropriate seat, and we supply it in advance at no extra cost.

Why "exempt" is not the same as "safe"

  • An adult seat belt is designed for adults. On a small child it crosses the neck and stomach, not the shoulder and hips.
  • A baby on a lap is not restrained at all. In an emergency stop, nobody can hold on.
  • A correctly installed seat sharply reduces the risk of injury, in a taxi as in your own car.

Infant carriers, car seats and boosters: what we supply, for which age

Three child restraints are available, all free and arranged in advance; the driver arrives with the seat already installed.

BoosterRoughly 4 years until the adult belt fits properlyLifts the child so the belt sits on the shoulder and hipsFree, on request

Age ranges are a guide; the manufacturer's weight and height limits are what count, so we ask for both when you book.

How to request a car seat when booking

Through the online calculator or on WhatsApp, tell us:

  1. How many children and each child's age (for example: "an 8-month-old and a 5-year-old").
  2. Total passenger count. A baby is a passenger, because the seat occupies a seating position.
  3. Suitcases and stroller type: folding umbrella stroller or full-size pram.
  4. Your departure time. We count backwards and suggest a pickup time.

Need two seats or more? Say so when you book, as early as possible. Bringing your own seat? The driver will help fit it; check your airline's rules for carrying it on the flight.

Which vehicle fits your family? Strollers, suitcases and seats

With a family taxi the real question is not price but whether everything fits. A regular taxi takes up to 4 passengers (babies in seats included) and up to 3 large suitcases; a folding stroller slides in beside the cases, while a full-size pram takes the space of a suitcase. Beyond that, book a 6-seat large taxi, a 10-seat van or a 19-seat minibus and we confirm the price within minutes.

Extended family, 7–10 peopleEveryone's luggage10-seat van
Several families, 11–19 peopleLuggage for everyone19-seat minibus

Rule of thumb: torn between regular and large? Choose large. A carry-on trolley, a backpack per child, a stroller and two car seats fill a boot fast; our family guide to the large taxi from Jerusalem to Ben Gurion covers the differences. Whatever the stroller, it stays with you to check-in; ask your airline about taking it to the aircraft door.

How much does a taxi to Ben Gurion with kids cost?

Exactly the same as without kids. The official 2026 meter tariff has no passenger or luggage surcharge (both abolished in 2020), and we charge nothing for a child seat. The meter counts distance and time, so a family of four pays the same as a solo traveller. Prices below: regular taxi, Tariff A daytime, including the ₪5.78 booking fee; for other cities see taxi to Ben Gurion Airport.

Tariff A, B and C, explained for visitors

Israel's meter has three rates; the night rate matters because many flights leave at dawn. Tariff A is daytime: Sunday to Thursday 06:00–21:00, Friday 06:00–16:00. Tariff B is the night rate (21:01–05:59 Sunday to Wednesday, 21:01–23:00 Thursday, 16:01–21:00 Friday); on an intercity trip it works out roughly 14% more, so Jerusalem to Ben Gurion is from ₪330. A 04:30 pickup Monday to Thursday falls under it, while 06:00 is already daytime. Tariff C, the Shabbat and holiday rate, adds around 28% to an intercity fare and runs 23:01–05:59 on Thursday night, from 21:01 on Friday and holiday eves until 05:59, and from 19:01 on Shabbat and holidays (Shabbat and holiday daytime, 06:00–19:00, is Tariff B); the same ride is then from ₪370. Leaving the airport adds ₪5; a Highway 6 toll (about ₪20) is passed through at cost if used. The final price is confirmed at booking. See our 2026 taxi price list and guide to the 2026 meter tariff.

When to leave for the airport with kids

Our rule for an international flight: be at Ben Gurion about 3 hours before departure. From Jerusalem that means leaving about 4 hours before take-off; in rush hour add 15–20 minutes, and allow a little extra with a baby: a last-minute nappy change always happens. A 10:00 flight? Leave Jerusalem at 06:00. From Beit Shemesh (about 33 minutes) roughly 3.5 hours before departure is enough; from Tel Aviv (about 29 minutes) later still, allowing for rush hour.

Tips for the ride with a baby or toddler

  • Time it around naps. The motion of the car does the rest.
  • Need a stop for feeding or a toddler's toilet break? Ask, and the driver pulls in at a petrol station. A baby never comes out of the carrier while the car is moving.
  • One reachable bag: nappies, wipes, a change of clothes, bottle, snack and toy, beside you rather than in the boot.

Checklist for the day before

  • Taxi booked with ages, seats, suitcases and stroller noted, and confirmed in writing.
  • Passports for every child (babies need one too) in the reachable bag.
  • Our WhatsApp number saved; cancellation is free more than 24 hours ahead (see our terms).

What happens at Terminal 3 departures

International flights from Ben Gurion generally use Terminal 3 (check your ticket). The driver drops you at the departures curb, unloads the suitcases and unfolds the stroller. Two things surprise first-time visitors: Ben Gurion runs a security screening before you reach the check-in desks, so have the whole family's passports out; and queues move at the speed of the slowest toddler, another reason for the 3-hour margin. Your own car seat is checked in or carried on, subject to the airline's rules.

Coming home: pickup at Ben Gurion with children

Landing with exhausted kids is when a pre-booked taxi earns its keep. Your driver waits in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall holding a sign with your family name. We track the flight in real time, so if you land late or early the driver is there when you walk out, and the price does not change because of a delay. The seats you asked for are already in the car.

A regular taxi from Ben Gurion to Jerusalem is from ₪300 in the daytime (including the ₪5 airport surcharge), to Beit Shemesh from ₪220; for night landings Tariff B applies, from ₪340 to Jerusalem. See taxi from Ben Gurion and our airport pickup guide, including Friday landings.

Visitors should know: we operate 24/6, that is 24 hours a day, Sunday to Friday. There is no service on Shabbat (Friday sunset to Saturday night) or Jewish holidays; Saturday-night landings are pre-booked, with the car departing after Shabbat ends, at the Shabbat-night rate (Tariff C). Bottom line

  • Taxis are exempt from Israel's child-restraint rule. We recommend a seat anyway and supply it free when requested in advance.
  • Infant carrier to about 1 year, car seat to about 4, booster until the adult belt fits. At booking, give ages, weights, passengers, suitcases and stroller type.
  • Regular taxi: up to 4 passengers and 3 suitcases. Pram or more than 3 suitcases: 6-seat large taxi. Extended family: 10-seat van. Group: 19-seat minibus. Prices confirmed within minutes.
  • Regular taxi to Ben Gurion: from Jerusalem from ₪290, Beit Shemesh from ₪210, Tel Aviv from ₪150 (daytime, 2026 tariff). Leave Jerusalem about 4 hours before take-off.

Frequently asked questions

Is a car seat mandatory for a child in a taxi in Israel?

No, not in the way it is in a private car: taxis are exempt from the child-restraint rule. We still recommend an age-appropriate seat for every intercity ride and supply one free on request.

How much does a taxi with a car seat to Ben Gurion cost?

The same as a regular taxi: from Jerusalem from ₪290 in the daytime under the 2026 meter tariff, from Beit Shemesh from ₪210, from Tel Aviv from ₪150. The seat is free.

Can I book an infant carrier for a two-month-old?

Yes. Give us the baby's age and approximate weight, and the car arrives with a rear-facing infant carrier fitted on the back seat.

Does a baby count as a passenger?

Yes. The infant seat takes a seating position, so two parents with three children, one a baby, need a 6-seat large taxi.

Will a stroller fit in a regular taxi?

A folding umbrella stroller almost always fits. A full-size pram with a carrycot takes the space of a suitcase, so with three suitcases plus that pram, book a large taxi.

When should we leave Jerusalem for an international flight with kids?

About 4 hours before departure, so you reach Ben Gurion about 3 hours before the flight. Add 15–20 minutes in rush hour, and a little more with a baby.

Do you provide car seats in the large taxi and the van too?

Yes. Request them at booking for any vehicle, regular taxi, 6-seat large taxi, 10-seat van or 19-seat minibus, and tell us how many seats and the children's ages.

Ready to fly with the family?

Send us the children's ages, suitcases and departure time, and we arrive with the seats fitted.
