A taxi from Jerusalem to Haifa starts at ₪770 in the daytime — 151 km, about 105 minutes — and a taxi from Jerusalem to Tiberias starts at ₪900 (178 km, about 121 minutes), both for a regular taxi with up to four passengers, on the official 2026 Israeli meter tariff. From 21:01 the night rate applies and those rides start at ₪870 and ₪1,020; on a Shabbat or holiday night, from 19:01, at ₪970 and ₪1,140. Safed (Tzfat), Nazareth, Acre, the Golan and Kiryat Shmona have no list price: the same tariff applies, and the calculator prices them for your date and time.

How Tariff A, B and C work

Israeli fares are set by a government price-supervision order; the 2026 tariff took effect on 1 April 2026, 2.8% below 2025. Tariff A is the daytime rate: Sunday to Thursday 06:00–21:00, Friday and holiday eves 06:00–16:00. Tariff B runs from 21:01 on weeknights and 16:01 on Friday, and is also the Shabbat and holiday daytime rate, 06:00–19:00. Tariff C, the highest, starts 23:01 Thursday, 21:01 Friday and holiday eves, and 19:01 on Shabbat and holidays. Over a long intercity run Tariff B is roughly 14% above the daytime price, Tariff C roughly 28%. More detail: our guide to the 2026 Israeli taxi meter tariff and the 2026 price list.

What the price covers, and what is added

The quote covers the flag drop, metered distance and minutes, and the booking supplement. Israel abolished the luggage and per-passenger surcharges in 2020, and child seats and boosters are free on request. Added at cost when used: the Highway 6 toll, about ₪20, and the Carmel Tunnels toll into Haifa. Distance and time are metered together, but a price agreed in advance does not move.

How long the drive north really takes

Jerusalem to Haifa is 151 km and about 105 minutes; Jerusalem to Tiberias, 178 km and about 121 minutes — door to door, on a clear road. In the Jerusalem morning rush, or into Haifa at a busy hour, add 15–20 minutes. The road is Highway 1, then Highway 6 and the coast road, with the Carmel Tunnels into Haifa.

Who rides from Jerusalem to the north

An appointment at Rambam is not a suggestion, and a cruise sails without you. A taxi leaves your door and stops at the entrance — the hospital, the port, the Technion, a Kinneret hotel or the Bahá'í Gardens.

Planning the day: when to leave

  1. Travel in the morning and stay on Tariff A. Leave Jerusalem at 06:30 and you are in Haifa around 08:15. From 21:01 the meter moves to Tariff B: from ₪870 to Haifa, ₪1,020 to Tiberias.
  2. Watch the clock on Friday. Tariff A ends at 16:00 on Fridays and holiday eves, and we do not drive after candle-lighting, so a Friday ride north must finish well before Shabbat.
  3. Fix the itinerary at booking. A stop on the way, or a drop at the Kinneret before continuing to the Golan — say so in advance and the price covers the whole journey.

Coming back south

The return is the same distance at the same starting price: Haifa to Jerusalem, 151 km, from ₪770 daytime. Book both legs together and the northern pickup is set with a confirmed price each way — see the taxi from Haifa to Jerusalem page.

Landing at Ben Gurion and going straight north

Heading for Haifa, the Krayot or the Galilee? Skip Tel Aviv. Ben Gurion Airport to Haifa is 114 km and about 78 minutes: from ₪580 in the daytime, ₪650 at night, ₪730 on a Shabbat or holiday night. Your driver waits in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall with a sign showing your name, and we track the flight in real time: a late or early landing moves the pickup, not the price. From Tel Aviv, Haifa is 93 km, from ₪480. See our guide to Ben Gurion airport pickup and the taxi from Ben Gurion page.

Groups, suitcases and special requests

A regular taxi seats four and takes up to three large suitcases. Beyond that, one larger vehicle beats two cars.

Large vehicles carry no published price — route, hour, stops and vehicle all count — so send the trip details and a quote comes back within minutes. Strollers, folding wheelchairs and sports gear are welcome; tell us at booking, and a vehicle with a wheelchair lift can be arranged in advance.

Taxi, train or bus: when the taxi earns its price

Plainly: a solo traveller with a backpack going to central Haifa on a weekday will spend less on public transport. Israel Railways connects Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon station with Tel Aviv and Ben Gurion Airport; check the operator's site for onward services north, times and fares. Navon sits deep underground beside the Central Bus Station, far from the Old City and the hotel districts. Intercity buses cover these routes too. The taxi earns its price when:

  • Your destination is nowhere near a station. Tiberias, Safed, the Golan, Kiryat Shmona, Kinneret hotels — a taxi goes to the door.
  • You have suitcases, equipment or small children. Three cases and a stroller turn every change into an operation.
  • The time is fixed. A treatment at Rambam, a cruise boarding, a ceremony that starts without you.
  • It is Shabbat or Saturday night. Trains stop from Friday afternoon until Saturday night, and so do we — a pre-booked ride after Shabbat fills the gap.
  • You are a group. Four sharing one taxi to Haifa, from ₪770, pay under ₪200 each; above four passengers one vehicle beats two taxis.

Shabbat, holidays, payment and cancellation

Shabbat and Jewish holidays

Almaxpress runs 24/6 — around the clock, Sunday through Friday. There is no service on Shabbat or on Jewish holidays, from candle-lighting on the eve until the day ends, and none at all on Yom Kippur (21 September 2026). Saturday-night rides are pre-booked and depart once Shabbat is out; that hour shifts weekly with the season, so check the week's Havdalah time. Saturday night still belongs to the Shabbat tariff day: Tariff B until 19:00, Tariff C from 19:01 — so a winter departure can start from ₪870 to Haifa, a later summer one from ₪970. The same rules cover Rosh Hashanah (12–13 September 2026), Sukkot (26 September), Simchat Torah (3 October), Pesach (22 and 28 April 2027) and Shavuot (11 June 2027); holiday eves follow the Friday pattern, holiday days the Shabbat one. See our guide to taxis on Saturday night and Jewish holidays.

Paying and cancelling

Pay cash to the driver, by credit card charged in advance by phone or payment link, or by bank transfer; a deposit may be requested for a long trip or a large vehicle. A full tax invoice is emailed for every ride; companies can receive a consolidated monthly invoice. Cancellation is free more than 24 hours ahead; 24 to 6 hours before, up to 50%; under 6 hours or a no-show, 100%, in writing — see the terms of service.

Bottom line

  • Jerusalem to Haifa: 151 km, about 105 minutes, from ₪770 daytime (₪870 night, ₪970 Shabbat/holiday night). Jerusalem to Tiberias: 178 km, 121 minutes, from ₪900 (₪1,020 / ₪1,140).
  • Ben Gurion to Haifa from ₪580; Tel Aviv to Haifa from ₪480. Safed, Nazareth, Acre, the Golan and Kiryat Shmona: meter tariff, no list price.
  • Highway 6 (about ₪20) and Carmel Tunnels tolls are added at cost; no luggage or passenger surcharge; child seats free.
  • Leaving before 21:00 on a weekday, or 16:00 on a Friday, keeps the daytime rate; booking both legs fixes each direction.
  • Service is 24/6, never on Shabbat or holidays; Saturday-night rides are pre-booked, group vehicles quoted within minutes.
