A taxi from Jerusalem to Beer Sheva costs from ₪570 by day — 104 km, about 92 minutes — under the official 2026 meter tariff; from Ben Gurion Airport it is 97 km, roughly 67 minutes, from ₪490. Those are Tariff A (daytime) starting prices for a regular taxi with up to four passengers: after 21:00 the night tariff applies (from ₪640), and Tariff C — late on Thursday night, or after Shabbat or a holiday ends — takes it to ₪720. Here is how the drive works, where we drop you, and what it costs to go deeper into the Negev.
How much is a taxi from Jerusalem to Beer Sheva in 2026?
Israeli taxi fares are set by a government price order, not by the driver; the current one took effect on 1 April 2026. The prices below are starting figures for a regular taxi (up to 4 passengers, 3 large suitcases), include the ₪5.78 pre-booking fee and are rounded down; final price confirmed at booking.
| Route | Distance | Drive time | Tariff A (day) from | Tariff B (night) from | Tariff C (late night / after Shabbat or a holiday) from |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jerusalem → Beer Sheva | 104 km | ~92 min | ₪570 | ₪640 | ₪720 |
| Beer Sheva → Jerusalem | 104 km | ~92 min | ₪570 | ₪640 | ₪720 |
| Ben Gurion Airport → Beer Sheva | 97 km | ~67 min | ₪490 | ₪560 | ₪620 |
The meter opens at ₪12.46, then adds ₪1.95 per kilometre for the first 10 km, ₪3.79 after that, and ₪1.95 per minute. Distance and time are billed together, not "whichever is greater", so traffic costs money. Full breakdown in our 2026 taxi meter tariff guide and on the 2026 price list.
A price agreed in advance is the official tariff for that date and time; traffic or a detour does not change it. The return leg covers the same 104 km, so a taxi between Jerusalem and Beer Sheva starts at ₪570 by day either way.
The route: Highway 6 and Route 40, or Route 60
Two roads do the job, both about 104 km. The usual choice leaves Jerusalem on Highway 1, turns south onto Highway 6 and finishes on Route 40. Highway 6 is a toll road; the toll, about ₪20, is added at cost only if we use it. Route 60 is the toll-free alternative.
Your driver takes the faster option for the hour you travel; say so at booking if you would rather skip the toll. In rush hour, add 15–20 minutes to the 92; since the meter bills per minute, an early start is the cheaper one.
From Ben Gurion Airport to Beer Sheva: from ₪490
Landing at Ben Gurion and heading straight south is routine for us: 97 km, about 67 minutes, from ₪490 by day. Your driver waits in the Terminal 3 arrivals hall holding a sign with your name and tracks your flight, so a delay costs nothing, and up to 45 minutes from actual landing are free; after that, waiting is charged per minute on the official meter.
Leaving Ben Gurion carries an official ₪5 departure surcharge, added to the fare and stated in your quote; there is no luggage surcharge and no per-passenger surcharge, both abolished in 2020. Beer Sheva back to the airport is priced by the same official tariff — get an instant price in the calculator; be at the airport about three hours before an international departure. Pickup address, Negev destination, passengers — the official 2026 tariff does the rest.
Where we drop you in Beer Sheva
A taxi is door-to-door, so the destination is an address, not a terminal on the edge of town: usually Soroka Medical Center, the Ben-Gurion University campus, or a home or hotel.
Patients and companions heading to Soroka
Hospital trips start early and end unpredictably, so a pre-booked car fixes the price in advance and leaves room for a companion. A folding wheelchair rides in the boot at regular-taxi prices — see our accessibility page.
Students, parents and Ben-Gurion University
A regular taxi takes up to 4 passengers and 3 large suitcases, which covers most move-in loads. The meter charges the car, not the head, so two students splitting ₪570 pay ₪285 each and four pay ₪142.50.
Business travel to the Negev
An invoice is issued for every payment, and business customers can receive one monthly invoice; a credit card is paid only through a payment link, with a 10% surcharge — see our business travel guide.
Beyond Beer Sheva: Mitzpe Ramon, Sde Boker, Arad and Dimona
Mitzpe Ramon, Sde Boker, Arad and Dimona each sit at a different distance from Jerusalem, so we publish no headline figure for them: they are priced by the official meter tariff — get an instant price in the calculator. Desert addresses that satellite navigation dislikes are fine; send a landmark or a pin.
Carry on south and the road ends in Eilat: 346 km, about four hours, from ₪1,780 by day, with one of the two routes running through Beer Sheva and Mitzpe Ramon. See our Jerusalem to Eilat guide and the intercity taxi page.
Timing your ride: night tariff, Friday and Shabbat
Three tariffs run across the week, and the hour you set off decides which you pay. The tariff "day" runs 06:00 to 05:59, so a 01:00 departure belongs to the night before.
| When you leave | Tariff | Jerusalem → Beer Sheva from |
|---|---|---|
| Sunday–Thursday, 06:00–21:00 | A (day) | ₪570 |
| Sunday–Wednesday, 21:01–05:59 | B (night) | ₪640 |
| Thursday, 21:01–23:00 | B (night) | ₪640 |
| Thursday, 23:01–05:59 | C | ₪720 |
| Friday / holiday eve, 06:00–16:00 | A (day) | ₪570 |
| Friday / holiday eve, 16:01 until Shabbat or the holiday begins | B (night) | ₪640 |
| Saturday night, until 19:00 | B (night) | ₪640 |
| Saturday night, from 19:01 | C | ₪720 |
Against daytime rates, Tariff B raises the per-minute and first-10-km rates by 20% and the beyond-10-km rate by roughly 10% — about 14% more on an intercity run. Tariff C raises them by 40% and about 21%, roughly 28% more. That is how ₪570 becomes ₪640 or ₪720.
We drive 24 hours a day, Sunday to Friday — 24/6. There is no service on Shabbat or Jewish holidays, from candle-lighting on the eve until Shabbat or the holiday ends, so Friday rides should finish before Shabbat comes in. Rides after Shabbat or a holiday ends are pre-booked and depart once it is out; that hour shifts weekly and by season, so check the week's Havdalah time and book beforehand. A ride starting after Shabbat ends is charged Tariff B until 19:00 and Tariff C from 19:01. More in our guide to taxis on Saturday night and Jewish holidays.
There is no service on these holidays, as on Shabbat, and service resumes when the holiday ends, by advance booking: Rosh Hashanah (12–13 September 2026), Yom Kippur (21 September 2026), Sukkot (26 September 2026), Simchat Torah (3 October 2026), Pesach (22 and 28 April 2027) and Shavuot (11 June 2027). Holiday eves follow the Friday rules.
Taxi, bus or train to the Negev?
Intercity buses run on every route here, and rail routes and timetables are worth checking on the operator's site. Two things shape the choice more than the ticket price. Trains do not run on Shabbat — roughly Friday afternoon to Saturday night — and most of the country has no public transport in that window, and Almaxpress does not drive on Shabbat or Jewish holidays either; a taxi pre-booked for afterwards fills the gap once Shabbat or the holiday ends. And Jerusalem's Yitzhak Navon station is deep underground beside the Central Bus Station, away from the Old City and the hotel districts, so one leg turns into three.
Families, groups and luggage
A regular taxi carries up to 4 passengers and up to 3 large suitcases, with carry-ons at the driver's discretion. Beyond that the fleet steps up: a 6-seat large taxi takes about 6–8 suitcases, a 10-seat van about 10–12, and a 19-seat minibus 19 or more with a luggage hold. Book a 6-seat large taxi, 10-seat van or 19-seat minibus on our large taxi page — we confirm the price within minutes.
A baby seat or booster for any age is available on request when you book, subject to availability, at ₪50 per seat; strollers, folding wheelchairs and sports gear travel at no extra charge.
Booking, payment and the small print
Almaxpress is a Jerusalem-based intercity service. Book through the calculator, on WhatsApp or by phone on +972-50-912-2133; confirmation arrives in writing with the price. Payment: cash, Bit or PayBox to the driver; credit card only through a payment link, with a 10% surcharge; bank transfer only in advance, before the ride. A deposit may be requested for long trips.
Cancelling is free more than 24 hours ahead; 24 to 6 hours before, up to 50%; under 6 hours or a no-show, 100%. Cancellations go in writing by WhatsApp or email — see our terms page. And one point worth stating plainly: intercity rides only — no rides within a city.
