A handful of low-cost airlines use Terminal 1 instead, so name your airline when you book and the driver waits in the right building. Landings from 21:01 onward fall into meter tariff 2, and the drive south then begins at ₪560 — useful to know while you are still choosing between an evening flight and a morning one. The drive north across the Negev

Leave Be'er Sheva and the city stops almost at once; for most of the way north the window is open desert, and little slows you down. Two roads cover that ground: Route 6, the north-south toll highway, the quicker of them, and a free road that stays closer to the farming towns and trades a few minutes for the toll. Not everyone on this line is on holiday. Academics and conference guests fly in for the Marcus family campus of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, relatives arrive because someone is being treated at the Soroka medical center across the road, and company visitors are due at the technology park beside the northern railway station. Why the same ride shows three different prices

Fares are metered on an official tariff, so there is nothing to negotiate at the curb. Most flights out of the Negev leave before sunrise, in tariff 2 — 21:01 until 05:59, and from 16:01 on a Friday or holiday eve until Shabbat or the holiday begins — from ₪560. Tariff 1 is the daytime rate, Sunday to Thursday 06:00 to 21:00 and Friday until 16:00: the ₪490 figure.
