How long is the drive from Jerusalem to Masada?
About 82 minutes in normal conditions, roughly 95 km. The route drops from Jerusalem down Route 1 toward the Dead Sea, then south on Route 90 past Ein Gedi to the Masada East (Snake Path) side. From Tel Aviv plan on roughly 2 h 15 min (about 189 km); from Dead Sea hotels like Ein Bokek it is only about 20-25 minutes.
Can the driver wait and bring us back?
Yes. Many guests book a round trip where the driver waits at the base while you hike, tour the fortress via the cable car, and come back down. This is popular for sunrise trips when there is no practical public transport. Let us know your expected time on the mountain so we can arrange the wait.
Which side of Masada do you drive to - east or west?
For the Snake Path and cable car we go to the eastern (Dead Sea) entrance off Route 90, which is the standard access point for hikers and sunrise visitors. The western Roman Ramp side is reached via Arad and is mainly used by organized groups; we can drive there too if your plan requires it.
Can we combine Masada with Ein Gedi or a Dead Sea float?
Absolutely. Masada, Ein Gedi Nature Reserve and the Dead Sea beaches at Ein Bokek all sit along the same Route 90 corridor, so a combined day is easy.
